Atouguia da Baleia Interpretive Center
Located in the S. José Church and annex building, in the Village of Atouguia da Baleia, the Atouguia da Baleia Interpretive Center is a plural space, with a tripartite management, between the Municipality of Peniche, the Parish Council of Atouguia da Baleia and the Parish of São Leonardo.
Opened in March 2012, it is part of the Peniche Municipal Museum Network and aims to study, enhance and disseminate the county’s historical and cultural heritage.
It encompasses knowledge from several scientific areas ranging from geology and paleontology to archeology and history, including human geography and anthropology.
The Atouguia da Baleia Interpretive Center is also a Church
The São José Church underwent works of requalification and expansion to be implanted the CIAB, highlighting the conservation and restoration of the CIAB’s estate, with emphasis on the work on the Altar-Mor Altarpiece of the Church.
