São Pedro Church in Peniche
The São Pedro Church in Peniche dates from the end of the 16th century and is one of the oldest and, at the same time, one of the most beautiful examples of religious architecture that you can visit and contemplate in the municipality of Peniche.
Built on the site of the old chapel of Espírito Santo, the Church of São Pedro underwent expansion works in the second half of the 17th century, not fully completed, thus justifying the fact that it presents only one of the bell towers initially planned.
Inside the Church of São Pedro de Peniche are the most interesting artistic records, worthy of mention are the main chapel decorated with gilded woodwork but also the twisted columns of the central nave.
Also noteworthy are the side altars dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem, Senhor do Bonfim and S. José, as well as the imposing pipe organ located in the high choir.
The historical and artistic importance of the Church of São Pedro de Peniche, like other local religious temples, was consecrated with its classification as a Public Interest Building in 1996.
As a consequence of its virtues and its classification, the Church of São Pedro is an important testimony of the heritage and local identity, it is for this reason one more of the elements that constitute the Route of the Churches of the Council of Peniche, recognition of its importance.

Religious celebrations in the Church of São Pedro, Peniche take place every day at 7 pm, with a ceremony also at 11 am on Sunday.
