About the Tour
Leiria Castle was built by King Afonso Henriques and was key to the Reconquista. Centuries later it became a royal palace, from where King João I followed the construction of Batalha Monastery.
The first book printed in the Iberian Peninsula came from Leiria, written by a Jewish scholar and printed by a Jewish family. We also follow in the footsteps of Eça de Queiroz and taste the local “Brisas do Lis” pastry.
